BIO

Born in Berlin in 1996, Niko Zeidler began playing the saxophone at the age of seven. Fascinated by music and enthusiastic about well-known jazz cats, he knew very early that he wants to study jazz and work as a musician. In addition to his lessons with the jazz saxophonist Matthias Manzke, he began the “Studienvorbereitende Arbeit” at the music school Steglitz-Zehlendorf at the age of 15. From 2014 to 2019 Niko Zeidler studied at the renowned Berlin Jazz Institute, first with Gregoire Peters and since 2015 with Prof. Peter Weniger jazz saxophone.

After he was able to gain his first experience in music school big bands and was a member of the "Berliner JugendJazzOrchester", Niko Zeidler is currently in numerous ensembles, such as the band "Make a Move", "Kick'n" or the "The Kenniko Standards Duo". The Kenniko Standards Duo is entirely dedicated to traditional jazz standards and was founded in 2015 with the jazz pianist Kenneth Berkel.

Niko Zeidler has already taken part in many different competitions, such as the "MeerJazz Festival", the "Bundesbegegegen Jugend jazzt", (where he won the first prize and the prize for the best soloist) or the Biberacher Jazz Prize and the Sparda Jazz Award where he reached the finals in 2018 with the band "Die Therapie".

In 2018 he was awarded a scholarship by the Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now eV with his bands "Die Therapie" and the "The Kenniko Standards Duo". In the same year, Niko Zeidler also became a member of the Berlin based band Wanubalé, which released it's debut album in autumn 2019 and  played at numerous jazz festivals for example at the "Leverkusener Jazztage".

From 2018 to 2019 he joined the Bundesjazzorchester and played many tours in the USA, Canada, England, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Albania and Montenegro and concerts in collaboration with the WDR Big Band, Django Bates, Ansgar Striepens , Steffen Schorn, Nils Klein and Jiggs Whigham.

Besides the saxophon, he also plays the jazz piano, flute and clarinet. Until 2014 he had piano lessons with Ralf Ruh and flute lessons with Stefan Klemm. While his studies he was taught by the Berlin jazz pianist Andreas Schmidt, as well as the flute professor Tilman Dehnhard and the classical clarinetist Helge Harding.
